The biggest compliment goes to the band for a quality which must be seen as the result of dynamic group processes (and one that is of as crucial importance as it is rare): they have created their own sound. Of course, many influences play a role when it comes to Etna’s musical approach, ranging from modern jazz to funk, from the dynamic themes created by musicians like the Esbjörn-Svensson-trio to the sound of – let’s say – Pat Metheny. But out of all these influences, the four players create something completely new. And this is all the more challenging, as their pieces are written not only from the head but the heart and thus are always melodic and (quite) catchy.
Etna is indeed a musical volcano.
